Must Listen: Swedish House Mafia return with BBC Radio1 Essential Mix

Swedish_house_mafia_2Here’s a little present from Swedish House Mafia. It’s been two years since they called it quits as a trio and we’re still hurting. They transcended boundaries, and put dance music on a global scale with megatours and massive hits. Anyhoo, we doubt we’ll ever see a reunion tour, but a few days ago they released a BBC Radio1 Essential Mix live Amnesia in 2011. Pure bliss.

Hop on the “Waterbed” with The Chainsmokers’ latest single

NYC duo The Chainsmokers have been on an absolute tear the last year or two and have lately been refining their original sound and bringing in some great indie featuring artists to create great tunes. Their latest, “Waterbed” is yet another example of it, we’ve had this song on repeat for the last few days! Hop on it right meow.

Preview: Green Velvet, Shiba San & Art Department headline Electric Island

11794506_458214214351723_4721611523257483621_oAnother long weekend and another Electric Island. Once again, Embrace, Platform and Coda have delivered an unparalleled lineup of talent. Obviously, we’re most stoked about Shiba San and it’s not because “Okay” is our favourite track. Green Velvet is back to destroy the shores of Lake Ontario again and Art Department returns home (minus Kenny) for a big headline set. Polish genius, Robert Babicz, joins the lineup along with DJ Three, The Junkies, Mike Gibbs and Koki. We’ve compiled a few tracks to get your ready for Hanlan’s Point.

Release: Mayor Apeshit – Power To The People (Remixes)

We love a good remix, and today we’ve been treated with a whole stack of them as Mayor Apeshit’s Power To The People has been handed over to 11 different producers. Offering a hugely diverse platter of sounds, this is Rottun Records’ biggest release this year.

The original has done extremely well on its own and when a rapper’s tracks are manipulated in bass music, the results are usually pretty nasty. These are no different, either, as they’re all given a huge amount of impact. Highlights have to be the opener, Dack Janiels’ take on “Black & Blue” and the devastating remix of “9mm & A Rollie” by Kennedy Jones.

If you like your basslines at the forefront and you’re open to an array of different sounds, this is an absolute must. Grab it here.

Release: Headhunterz – To Be Me ft. Raphaella (Shilo Edit)

We’re all about the latest remix to come out of Ultra Music this week, and you need to get your ears around it. It comes from Shilo, a talented and highly versatile artist, who has given Headhunterz “To Be Me” ft. Raphaella a new lease of life.

With the original already incredibly memorable, Shilo takes elements of it and transforms into a lilting yet rhythmical offering. Seamlessly blending those incredible vocals, a catchy, progressive melody and general warmth to his production, Shilo has definitely won us over with this track.

You can buy it here.

Release: JackLNDN – All I See

Landing fresh this week through Ultra Music is the brand new single from JackLNDN, and what a cracker it is. “All I See” is another chance to listen to UK hailing Jack’s awesome production, which was recently showcased for Nurvous Records.

This single is an instant mood enhancer, taking a striking beat to set the mood and draping luscious, looped vocals over the top adding more than a pinch of funk. This track is summery and instantly addictive, so snap it up quick whilst you can.

You can do so here.

Must Listen: Faithless – Insomnia 2.0 (Avicii Remix)

Avicii - umfAvicii’s still got it. BBC Radio1 got an exclusive play of his massive “Insomnia” remix for Faithless. Even though “Insomnia” may be one of the most rinsed tracks, it’s amazing to see that Avicii can still drop some dirty beats.

Release Date: TBA

Release: Danzfolk – LMU (Original Mix)

11540825_845694338860415_1560259173273479306_nOttawa producers, Danzfolk, have been relatively quiet over the last half year. Anyhoo, they’ve just turned out one of the biggest progressive house anthems of the year on Zerothree

Free Download: Dr. Fresch – Superfreak (Original Mix)

dr-fresch“Superfreak is in a lot of ways a culmination of the different genre styles that have contributed to the Dr. Fresch brand from day one until now. As in many of my works, I draw a stark contrast between the emotions and sounds in the breakdown versus the drop, but tie these radically different sounds together with just a few key elements – in this case those elements happen to be the disco / funk synths I used, which I felt (along with the sample obviously) contributed to the title “Superfreak”. The song mixes elements of bass, deep, future and melodic house to create something ready for the club or just your bluetooth, hope my fans enjoy this one! ;)” – Dr. Fresch
