The extremely versatile James Egbert dropped this bomb on Facebook today and we’re instantly hooked. The Colorado producer has taken the instant classic “Blessings” by Chance the Rapper and flipped it into a future bass beast. Catch the track for free download.
We couldn’t not post about this one. Chance the Rapper dropped his third mixtape, Coloring Book, on Friday and it’s been met with amazing reviews. Well, we completely agree. On first listen “All Night” was an instant favourite off the album. It’s upbeat house tones worked perfectly into the chilled out ghospel stylings of the rest of the mixtape. Then we learned Kaytranada made the beat and it all made sense.
Warm weather looks to be returning just in time for the season opener of Electric Island 2016 on May 23rd. The Victoria Day weekend party always sets Toronto’s festival season off with a stacked lineup and Platform, Footwork and Embrace have outdone themselves with a World class day of talent. Featuring Sven Vath, Jamie Jones, DJ Tennis and Job Jobse for the opener of all openers.
We’ve known for a long time that The Chainsmokers were going to be huge. How huge was the question? In our first interview with them years ago, they mentioned wanting to make a Calvin Harris style hit. At that point it seemed so far off, but here we are today and they’re pretty much a household name. They’ve proved all the “one hit wonder” name-sayers wrong after “Selfie.” I mean, any actual fan of The Chainsmokers knew they had it in them.
That first time we heard “Roses” we knew they could be as big as they wanted to be. While it took lots of time and effort for “Roses” to get commercial radio air time, their next single “Don’t Let Me Down” hopped on the chart immediately. It’s on like Donkey Kong and there’s pretty much no stopping them now. While other big name EDM acts are stuck following trends, The Chainsmokers are paving their own path with diverse sets, huge performances and extremely versatile productions.
Their next single “Inside Out” breathes another breathe of fresh air into their production catalogue. “Inside Out” features Charlee and The Chainsmokers unique indy and progressive sound. Seriously, the possibilities are endless for these two idiots. Expect to see them on the headline slot of every major festival next summer.
Peder Losnegård knows as Lido to many just dropped a bomb a few minutes ago on his socials. He’s been rather quiet on the music front lately, but you knew something was cooking. Lately, he’s been having trouble with copyright and the flips he’s become known for due to Souncloud… and he’s made his frustrations very public. Anyhoo, in classic Lido fashion he’s taken “Life of Pablo” by Kanye West and flipped the album into “Life of Peder”; his own interpretation of the 2016 album of the year (our opinion). In many way Lido could be the perfect Kanye collaborator. Known for his silky smooth samples and gospel inspired anthems. Lock in for the 8 minute beast.
Seems like we’ve been listening to T-Mass for years. His melodic take on dubstep had us mesmerized years ago, but his new sound incorporates that same style with more trap and future bass oriented productions. Coming off the massive “Trapped in Fourth”, The Chainsmokers have dropped his remix of their latest single “Don’t Let Me Down’ at Ultra Miami a few weekends ago. With the original having an already big trap drop, he went the future bass direction and all roads are leading to huge.
Aight, so Justin Jay has been on something lately. His new music has taken a spin toward the indie direction and it’s f!@$in’ beautiful. Probably because he’s getting set to drop an album that is gonna come in super underrated no doubt. The Dirtybird protege continues to refine and develop his sound with live instrumentals like in his latest single, “Weatherman”.
I expect 2016 to be a huge year for Vintage Culture. He’s conquered South America in every way possible. Like his On the Road said, the next step is North America. He hinted at a possible Spinnin Records releases in the future. Anyhoo, here’s his first single of 2016 and it’s a juicy one. Featuring Stee Downes on vocals the track features that classic Vintage Culture groove and crispy clean bassline. No word on a release date yet on this one.
Sitting at under 5000 plays here’s a little gem we found while digging through Soundcloud. Canadian-American producer Dual Citizen drops this extremely catchy and groovy track titled,”Where U At”. Labeled as Future R&B there’s something fun and super original about the production style. Of course, it samples the famous “Where You At” 2011 single from Jennifer Hudson.
Having dropped Pt.1 a mere few weeks ago, LAXX has just returned to Never Say Die with the next section of his “Twitch” series. He’s an artist who can’t seem to do much wrong at the moment, with plenty of shows around the world and his army of fans growing by the day.
“Twitch Pt.2” is also made up of three tracks, and features another collaboration – this time the ferocious and frenzied “Destruktion” which has been made with Brillz. The other two tracks take the form of “Get Up”, which is darkly atmospheric with looped vocals and “Live And Direct” – which is made up of a myriad of unique sounds and textures.
